Voice Conversations
Talk to your assistant using your voice — start voice conversations, choose your preferred voice, and configure speech recognition.
Your assistant isn't limited to text. You can have full voice conversations — speak naturally, and your assistant responds out loud. It's like a phone call with a knowledgeable colleague who never needs to put you on hold.
Starting a voice conversation
Click the microphone button in the chat input to start a voice conversation. A full-screen overlay appears with three states:
- Listening — A green waveform shows your audio levels. Speak naturally and the assistant will wait for you to finish.
- Thinking — A blue pulsing orb appears while the assistant processes your request.
- Speaking — A purple waveform plays as the assistant responds out loud.
To end the conversation, click the hang up button (red phone icon) in the center of the screen, or press Escape on your keyboard.
Voice input in chat
If you prefer typing but want to dictate a message, you can use voice input without entering full voice mode. Click the microphone icon in the chat input area — your speech is transcribed in real time as you talk. When you pause, the transcription commits as a regular text message.
This is great for quick messages when typing isn't convenient, without switching to a full voice conversation.
Voice settings
Customize your voice experience by navigating to Assistant > Settings > Voice.
Voice selection
Choose from five voice options, each with its own character:
| Voice | Style | Language |
|---|---|---|
| Hale | Expressive, deep and emotive | US English |
| Hope | Clear, relatable, charismatic | US English (default) |
| Erik | Clear and natural | Norwegian |
| Helge | Clear and natural | Norwegian |
| Maja | Calm audiobook narrator | Norwegian |
Each voice has a Preview button so you can hear a sample before committing. Click it to hear: "Hello! I'm your assistant. How can I help you today?"
Speech recognition language
Select your preferred language for speech recognition from the dropdown. Over 20 languages are supported, and the setting persists across sessions.
Tips for better voice interactions
- Speak at a natural pace — The assistant handles conversational speech well. No need to slow down or over-enunciate.
- Use natural pauses — The voice activity detection picks up when you've finished speaking. A brief pause signals you're done.
- Be specific — Just like text, specific questions get better answers. "What's the status of Project Alpha?" works better than "Tell me about projects."
- Switch modes freely — You can start a voice conversation and continue it in text, or vice versa. The conversation thread stays the same.
Voice conversations use ElevenLabs for speech synthesis and support over 20 languages for speech recognition. Your voice data is processed in real time and is not stored.
