Files

Upload, manage, and use files in your assistant conversations.

You can upload files directly into your assistant conversations. This is great for quick tasks — like summarizing a document, extracting data from a spreadsheet, or getting feedback on a draft — without needing to add the file to your knowledge base first.

Uploading files

Drag and drop a file into the chat, or click the attachment button to browse your device. The assistant processes the file and makes its content available in the current conversation.

You can upload multiple files at once. The assistant handles them individually and can reference any of them when answering your questions.

Supported file types

The assistant can work with most common file formats:

  • Documents — PDF, Word (.docx), plain text (.txt), Markdown (.md)
  • Spreadsheets — Excel (.xlsx), CSV
  • Presentations — PowerPoint (.pptx)
  • Images — PNG, JPG, GIF (for visual analysis and description)
  • Code — Most programming language files

Files uploaded in a conversation are available for the duration of that conversation. If you want files to be accessible across all conversations, add them to your Knowledge Base instead.

Managing your files

The Files section in your assistant gives you an overview of everything you've uploaded. From there you can:

  • View — See a list of all uploaded files with names, sizes, and upload dates
  • Preview — Open a file to check its content without leaving Opisense
  • Delete — Remove files you no longer need

How files are used in conversations

Once a file is uploaded, you can reference it naturally. Just say things like "Summarize the PDF I uploaded" or "What are the key numbers in the spreadsheet?" The assistant reads the file's content and uses it to answer your question.

If you upload multiple files, you can ask the assistant to compare them, combine information, or work with specific ones by name. It keeps track of everything in the conversation thread.
