Getting Started with Task Automation
Learn how to set up scheduled tasks in Opisense so your AI handles repetitive work automatically.
If you're tired of doing the same work over and over, task automation is for you. Opisense lets you create scheduled tasks that your AI assistant handles on a recurring basis — so you can focus on the work that actually needs your attention.
What is task automation?
A task in Opisense is a piece of work you define once and schedule to run automatically. Your AI assistant picks it up at the scheduled time, does the work, and reports back with the results.
Think of it like giving a standing instruction to a reliable team member: "Every Monday morning, pull together a summary of last week's activity and send it to the team."
Before you begin
Make sure you've completed the quickstart guide and had at least one conversation with your assistant. Your assistant needs some context about your work to handle tasks effectively.
Create your first task
The fastest way to create a task is to simply ask your assistant. Open a chat and say something like:
"Create a daily task to summarize all new documents in the Knowledge Base every morning at 9am."
Your assistant will confirm the details, set up the schedule, and activate it for you. That's it — you're done.
Prefer a hands-on approach?
If you'd rather configure things visually, you can use the task wizard instead:
Open the task wizard
Navigate to Tasks in the sidebar and click New Task. This opens the task wizard, which guides you through the setup step by step.
Describe what you want done
Write a clear description of the work. Be specific about what you want and what the output should look like. For example:
- "Summarize all new documents added to the Knowledge Base this week"
- "Draft a weekly status update based on project activity"
- "Review inbox messages and flag anything that needs my attention"
The more detail you give, the better the results.
Set a schedule
Choose how often the task should run. You can pick from common intervals like daily, weekly, or monthly — or set a custom schedule that fits your workflow.
Choose skills and knowledge
If your task needs access to specific documents or capabilities, you can attach knowledge sources and skills. For example, a task that summarizes project updates might need access to your project's knowledge base.
Review and activate
Preview the task configuration, then activate it. Your AI assistant will pick it up at the next scheduled time.
Monitor your tasks
After a task runs, you'll find the results in the Tasks section. Each run shows what the AI did, the output it produced, and whether it completed successfully. If something doesn't look right, you can tweak the description or schedule and try again.
It's normal to refine your task descriptions after the first few runs. Think of it like onboarding a new team member — a little feedback goes a long way.
