Tasks
Schedule automated work and let your AI handle repetitive tasks on a recurring basis.
Tasks are how you put your AI to work on a schedule. Instead of remembering to ask your assistant the same thing every day or week, you set it up once as a task and Opisense handles the rest automatically.
Why use tasks?
We all have work that follows the same pattern: pull a report, check for updates, summarize what happened, send a recap. These are the things that eat up your time without requiring much creative thought. Tasks let you offload that work to your AI assistant so you can focus on what actually needs your attention.
For a deeper look at how automation works in Opisense, see Automation and Tasks.
What you can automate
Tasks are flexible. Here are some popular examples:
- Daily briefings — "Every morning, summarize my inbox and calendar for the day."
- Weekly reports — "Every Friday, compile project activity into a status update."
- Data monitoring — "Every day, check for newly uploaded documents and notify me."
- Content generation — "Every Monday, draft a social media post based on our latest updates."
If you find yourself asking your assistant the same thing regularly, it's a good candidate for a task.
How it works
Every task has three key pieces:
- Instructions — What you want the AI to do, written in plain language
- Schedule — How often it should run (daily, weekly, monthly, or custom)
- Agent — Which AI handles the work (your personal assistant or a specific agent)
Once activated, the task runs automatically at the scheduled time. Results are logged so you can review what happened and adjust if needed.
Tasks run in the background — you don't need to be online or have Opisense open. Results will be waiting for you when you check in.
Two ways to create tasks
You can create tasks in whichever way feels most natural to you:
Just ask in chat
The simplest way to create a task is to ask your assistant or an agent directly. They have built-in tools to create and manage tasks for you. Just say something like:
- "Set up a daily task to summarize my inbox every morning at 8am"
- "Create a weekly report that pulls project activity every Friday"
- "Schedule a task to check for new documents every day"
Your assistant will handle the details — confirming the schedule, choosing the right agent, and activating the task. You can also ask it to pause, edit, or delete tasks later. This is often the fastest way to get started.
Use the task wizard
If you prefer a more hands-on approach, the task wizard gives you a step-by-step form to configure every detail yourself. It's great when you want precise control over scheduling, knowledge sources, and skills.
Not sure which to choose? Start by asking your assistant in chat. You can always fine-tune the task later in the wizard.
Quick start
Navigate to Tasks
Click Tasks in the sidebar to see your task dashboard. It shows all your tasks in a table with status, schedule, and last run information.
Create a new task
Either ask your assistant to create one for you in chat, or click New Task to open the task wizard.
Review the results
After the task runs for the first time, come back to the Tasks page to see the output. You can review what the AI did and tweak the instructions if something needs adjusting.
