Voice Capture

Record your thoughts on the go and turn them into polished documents — with real-time transcription on your phone.

Voice Capture on mobile works the same way as on the web. Speak, see a live transcript as you talk, and get a polished document when you're done. There are two ways to use it: the standalone Voice Capture screen for quick capture, or the inline overlay inside the document editor.

Voice Capture screen

The Voice Capture screen is a dedicated recording interface optimized for quick capture on the go.

Open Voice Capture

Tap Voice Capture in the navigation drawer (look for the microphone icon).

Choose your language

Select your language from the dropdown below the record button. It defaults to your language preference from settings. See supported languages for the full list.

Tap record

Tap the large record button — the red circle in the center of the screen. Recording begins immediately.

Allow microphone access

The first time you record, your device will ask for permission to use the microphone. Tap Allow. You only need to do this once.

During a recording

Once recording starts, you'll see:

  • A status indicator at the top showing a pulsing red dot and elapsed time
  • A live transcript below that updates as you speak — words appear in real time
  • Auto-scrolling that keeps the latest text visible as you talk

Speak naturally at a comfortable pace. The transcription handles conversational speech well — no need to slow down or over-enunciate.

Pause and resume

Tap Pause to temporarily stop recording. The indicator turns yellow and the timer freezes. Nothing is lost — tap Resume to continue right where you left off.

Stopping and saving

When you're finished, tap Stop & Save. Here's what happens next:

  1. Your audio is uploaded to Opisense
  2. The AI cleans up your transcript — fixing grammar, removing filler words, and organizing the text into readable paragraphs
  3. You're automatically taken to the finished document

The whole process takes a few seconds for short recordings, and up to a minute for longer ones.

Recordings shorter than 2 seconds are discarded automatically. If you accidentally tap record, just stop quickly and nothing will be saved.

Inline transcription overlay

Instead of switching to the Voice Capture screen, you can start recording right inside the document editor.

Tap the microphone icon in the editor toolbar. An overlay slides up above the toolbar showing a live transcript as you speak.

When you're done:

  • Tap Done to insert the raw transcribed text at your cursor position. No AI cleanup is applied — you edit it yourself, just like in-document transcription on the web.
  • Tap the close button (✕) to discard the transcript and dismiss the overlay.

Long-press the microphone icon in the toolbar to jump directly to the standalone Voice Capture screen instead.

Background recording

Recording continues when you switch apps, lock your phone, or receive a notification. A persistent notification shows the recording status and elapsed time. Tap the notification to return to the recording screen.

If you receive a phone call during recording, iOS pauses the audio session automatically and resumes when the call ends.

Crash recovery

If the app is force-closed or crashes during a recording, your audio backup is saved locally on your device. The next time you open the app, a recovery prompt appears — tap Recover to upload and process the recording into a document.

Troubleshooting

Microphone permission denied

If you denied microphone access or need to re-enable it:

  1. Open your device's Settings app
  2. Find Opisense in the app list
  3. Enable the Microphone permission
  4. Return to Opisense and try recording again

Background recording stops on Android

Some Android manufacturers limit background activity to save battery. If recording stops when you switch apps:

  1. Open Settings > Apps > Opisense > Battery
  2. Set battery optimization to Unrestricted (or equivalent for your device)
  3. On Samsung devices, also check Settings > Device care > Battery > App power management

Recording notification not appearing

The recording notification requires notification permission. If you don't see it:

  1. Open your device's Settings app
  2. Find Opisense in the app list
  3. Enable Notifications

The recording still works without the notification — you just won't see the status indicator outside the app.

Recovery prompt on launch

If you see a "Recover recording?" prompt when opening the app, a previous recording was interrupted. Tap Recover to process it into a document, or Discard to delete the backup file.
