Chat mode

Chat mode is the easy way into Image Studio. Type what you want; the agent figures out the rest. Behind the scenes every chat creates a canvas with the full lineage of every image, so you can switch to canvas view for fine-grained edits at any time.

When to use which

• Chat mode — quick generations, iteration through conversation, "give me 3 variations of this with a brighter background", agent-assisted prompt refinement.
• Canvas mode — manual control over modes (Generate / Edit / Compose / Variations), painting masks by hand, multi-reference composition with the picker.

How it works

Open /images. The default tab is Chat. Either pick a recent chat from the list or click New chat.

Type a prompt. The agent:

1. Creates a canvas if needed.
2. Picks the right tool: generate, edit, compose, or variations.
3. Calls the tool with sensible defaults (square aspect, medium quality).
4. Returns the image in the thread with a result card.

From any result card you can:

• Variations — riff on this image.
• Edit — open the mask painter on this image.
• Open in canvas — jump to canvas mode pinned to this generation.

Attachments

The composer supports two kinds of attachments:

• Mask — paint a region on the latest image. Once attached, the agent treats your next message as an edit-with-mask.
• References — pick 2-4 images from the lineage or upload new ones. With ≥2 refs attached, the agent treats your next message as a compose.

Brand styles

If a brand style is attached to the canvas, the agent applies it by default. Toggle it off by asking ("turn off brand for this one").
