Troubleshooting

Common Image Studio issues and how to fix them.

Generation is stuck on "Generating…"

If the canvas shows the spinner for more than a couple of minutes, the generation likely failed silently or the request never reached the model. Try:

  1. Refresh the page. If the generation eventually lands, you're fine.
  2. Look for a red error banner above the prompt bar — it shows the most recent failure reason.
  3. Try again with a smaller image (lower aspect ratio dimensions) or a lower quality tier. Very large, very high-quality requests are more likely to time out.
  4. If multiple generations in a row fail, the model provider may be having an outage. Check your status page or wait a few minutes.

"Generate" is greyed out

A few things can disable the button:

  • Empty prompt — type something in the prompt textarea
  • Already generating — wait for the current generation to finish before starting another
  • Workspace quota reached — the readout in the prompt bar will show "limit reached"; an admin can raise the cap

"No brand styles" in the brand picker

Your workspace doesn't have any brand styles yet. Brand styles are admin-only — ask a workspace admin to create one at /admin/images. You can keep generating without a brand style; the chip just stays as None.

The download has a weird file extension

The extension follows the source format. PNGs, JPGs, and WebP all download with their native extension — that's expected, not a bug.

Insert into… is greyed out

The canvas needs at least one generation before you can insert anywhere. The tooltip will say "Generate an image first". Run a generation, then try again.

I can't rename or delete a canvas

You're a view-only or comment-only collaborator. Rename, Duplicate, and Delete require edit access. Ask the canvas owner to bump your access in the share dialog.

Edit (mask) keeps changing the wrong area

The mask is what you painted, and the AI only changes pixels inside the mask. If unintended areas are changing, you may have painted slightly outside the region you meant — open Edit again and refine the mask. A larger feathered brush blends more smoothly; a smaller hard brush gives sharper boundaries.

Compose results don't match my references

Compose works best when the prompt explicitly describes how the references relate ("Place the logo from image 1 onto the building in image 2"). Vague prompts lead to averaged-out results. Try being more specific about which reference contributes what.

I deleted a canvas by mistake

Deletion is permanent — there's no trash. If you need the image, you have to regenerate it. To avoid this, the Delete dialog warns you about the generation count before you confirm.
