Create your agent's identity & model
Create a custom agent and set its name, icon, color, description, and model.
Intermediate · ~10 min · Prerequisites: admin access to AgentForce
Building and editing agents is admin-only. Members can run and observe agents, but only admins can create or change them.
What you'll do
Open the builder, fill in the identity fields that members will see, and choose the model that fits your agent's job.
Open the builder
Go to /admin/agents and click + New agent. The builder opens with an empty draft. Everything you save here is a draft — members keep seeing the last published version (or nothing, if this is a new agent) until you click Publish.
Set the identity
The identity section is what members see on the hub card and at the top of the chat. Fill in:
- Display name — the name that appears in the hub and in chat headers. Be specific: "Support Triage" is clearer than "My Agent".
- Icon — choose an icon that signals the role at a glance.
- Color — the accent color for the agent's card. Use your brand color or a color that maps to the role (e.g., green for support, blue for research).
- Description — one sentence explaining what the agent does and who it's for. This is what members read before starting a conversation.
A clear description reduces the wrong-agent confusion that happens when the hub has several agents with similar names. See Identity & model for the full field reference.
Pick a model
The Identity & model section also lets you choose the underlying language model. Match the model to the job:
- Lower latency, higher volume — use a faster model for agents that handle many short requests (e.g., triage, quick lookups, single-turn Q&A).
- Deeper reasoning — use a more capable model for agents that draft long-form content, analyze documents, or handle multi-step tasks.
If you're not sure, start with the default. You can change the model after testing without affecting the published version.
Save the draft
Click Save (or the auto-save indicator will commit your changes within a few seconds). The agent now appears in /admin/agents with a Draft badge. Members don't see it yet.
You can keep a draft in progress for as long as you need. Jump back to the builder at /admin/agents/<slug>/edit at any time to continue.
