Have your first agent conversation

Send your first message to an agent and get a useful result using its suggested prompts.

Beginner · ~5 min · Prerequisites: None

What you'll do

Open a catalog agent, use one of its suggested prompts to get started, then follow up in the same thread to refine the result.

Steps

Open an agent from the hub

Go to /agentforce and click the card for any agent — for example, Research Analyst to summarize sources or Sales Assistant to draft outreach. The agent's chat opens at /agentforce/<slug>/chat with a fresh thread ready.

Pick one of the three suggested starter prompts

Every agent shows three suggested starter prompts in the empty state, tailored to what it does well. Click one — it drops into the composer so you can review it before sending. Nothing sends yet.

Edit it and send

Replace the placeholder text with your actual task — a real topic, a real contact name, a real document. When it looks right, press Enter. The agent runs and streams its response back to you.

Follow up in the same thread

You don't need to start over to refine the result. Reply directly in the same thread — "make that shorter", "change the tone to formal", or "add a section on pricing". The agent keeps the full context of the conversation, so you never re-explain what you asked for.

The suggested prompts are just a starting point. Once you've tried one, feel free to type your own from scratch — there's no wrong first message.
