Creating Agents

Two ways to create an AI agent — build one manually or let AI help you set it up interactively.

Opisense gives you several ways to create a new AI agent. Pick whichever feels most natural.

The quick way: ask your assistant

You can create an agent simply by chatting with your assistant:

"Create a new agent called Support Bot that answers customer questions using our knowledge base. Make it friendly and concise."

Your assistant will set up the agent — name, instructions, tools, and knowledge — and ask you to confirm before creating it. You can refine things in the conversation: "Also give it access to the FAQ documents" or "Make the tone more formal."

This is the fastest path when you have a clear idea of what you want.

Manual creation

Manual creation is ideal when you know exactly what you want. You'll fill in each section yourself and have full control from the start.

Open the creation page

Navigate to AI Employees in the sidebar and click Create New. Choose Create Manually to open the manual setup form.

Set the basics

Fill in your agent's name, description, and category. The name is what your team will see in the agent list, so make it descriptive — something like "Support Agent" or "Weekly Report Writer."

The description helps your team understand what the agent does at a glance. Keep it to one or two sentences.

Write initial instructions

This is the most important part. Your instructions tell the agent what its job is, how it should behave, and any rules it should follow. Be specific — the clearer your instructions, the better the agent performs.

For example: "You are a customer support specialist. Answer questions using only the documents in your knowledge base. Be friendly and concise. If you don't know the answer, say so and offer to escalate."

Configure tools and knowledge

Attach the tools your agent needs (like document search or email drafting) and connect any knowledge sources it should reference. You can always add or remove these later.

Review and create

Check everything looks right and click Create. Your agent is now live and ready to chat with.

AI-assisted creation

If you're not sure where to start, the AI-assisted flow is a great option. Instead of filling out a form, you have a conversation with Opisense's AI, and it builds the agent for you based on your answers.

Open the interactive creator

Navigate to AI Employees in the sidebar, click Create New, and choose Create with AI. This opens a chat interface.

Describe what you need

Tell the AI what kind of agent you want. You can be as specific or as general as you like. For example: "I need an agent that helps onboard new employees by answering their questions about company policies."

Answer follow-up questions

The AI will ask clarifying questions about your agent's role, personality, and capabilities. Just answer naturally — it uses your responses to configure everything automatically.

Review the result

Once the AI has enough information, it generates a fully configured agent for you. Review the name, instructions, tools, and knowledge connections. You can edit anything before finalizing.

Create the agent

When you're happy with the configuration, confirm and create. Your agent is ready to go.

The AI-assisted flow is especially helpful when you're creating your first few agents. It asks the right questions so you don't miss anything important.

Which method should I use?

  • Manual — Best when you have a clear vision and want precise control. Experienced users often prefer this path.
  • AI-assisted — Best when you're exploring, unsure about configuration details, or want a faster starting point.

You can always switch between them. Start with AI-assisted creation to get a draft, then fine-tune manually.
