Comments and Suggestions
Collaborate on documents with inline comments, threaded discussions, and tracked suggestions.
When you share a document for feedback, comments and suggestions let your team collaborate without overwriting each other's work. Leave notes, start discussions, and propose changes — all inline within the document.
Adding comments
Select text in a document or click at a specific point to add a comment. A comment panel appears where you can type your note.
Comments are threaded — others can reply to start a discussion. This keeps feedback organized around specific parts of the document rather than scattered across messages.
- Press Enter to submit your comment
- Press Shift + Enter for a new line within a comment
Managing comments
Once comments are in, you have several ways to manage them:
- Edit — Click the three-dot menu on your own comment and select Edit. An "(edited)" label appears after you save.
- Delete — Click the three-dot menu and select Delete to remove your comment entirely.
- Resolve — Click the checkmark button on the first comment in a thread to resolve the entire discussion. Resolved threads collapse but remain accessible if you need to revisit them.
Suggestions
Suggestions are tracked changes that appear inline in the document:
- Insertions — New text appears with a green highlight
- Deletions — Removed text appears with a red highlight and strikethrough
Hover over a suggestion to see it more clearly. You can accept or reject individual suggestions to apply or discard the proposed changes.
You need Can comment permission or higher to add comments. Users with Can view access can read comments but can't participate in discussions or make suggestions.
