Import files and web pages into a space

Bring existing files or web pages into a space as native documents.

Intermediate · ~10 min · Prerequisites: editor access to a space

Editing a Space's content requires editor or owner access. Viewers can open and read a Space but can't change it.

What you'll do

Import files from your computer or pages from the web directly into a Space, so the content becomes a native, editable document that all Space members can find and read.

What you can import

Opisense can import a range of file types and public web pages:

  • Files — Word documents, PowerPoint presentations, Excel spreadsheets, PDFs, plain text, Markdown, HTML, and OpenDocument formats (.odt, .odp, .ods).
  • Web pages — any publicly accessible URL. You can import a single page or multiple pages from the same site at once.

All imported content is converted to a native Opisense document. After import you can edit it just like any other page. For the full list of supported formats and options, see Importing documents.

Import into the space

  1. Open the Space you want to import into (you need editor or owner access).
  2. Click New and choose Import from file… or Import from website… depending on your source.
  3. For a file import: select one or more files from your computer and confirm. Each file becomes a separate document.
  4. For a website import: paste the URL, then choose This page only or Multiple pages from this site. Confirm to start the import.
  5. An import row appears showing progress. When it reads Ready, click it to open the new document.

The document is created inside the Space — not in Your content — so it is immediately visible to Space members.

After import

Once the import finishes, the document is a normal Space document:

  • Space members can open, read, and (if they have editor access) edit it.
  • It appears in the Space's Browse view alongside other documents.
  • You can move it into a folder, rename it, or reorganize it like any other doc.

If you want to check whether the content imported correctly, open the document and compare it against the source. Rich formatting (headings, tables, lists) is preserved where possible; complex layouts may simplify on conversion.

Permissions

Only Space editors and owners can trigger an import into a Space. Viewers cannot. If the Import option is missing from the New menu, check your role with a Space owner — see Add members and set roles.
