Make the assistant remember your preferences

Save durable settings — tone, format, your role — so they apply across every thread.

Beginner · ~5 min · Prerequisites: None

What you'll do

Tell the assistant a preference once and have it apply automatically to every future conversation, without repeating yourself each time.

The quick way: just ask

"Remember that I prefer concise bullet-point answers."

The assistant saves that instruction to your memory and confirms it's stored. From that point on, every thread responds in your preferred format.

Steps

Tell the assistant a preference

Start a new thread or continue an existing one. Say something like: "Remember that I'm a senior product manager and prefer answers in short bullets with no fluff." Be as specific as you like — tone, length, format, role context, even recurring projects.

Confirm it was saved

The assistant acknowledges the preference and tells you it's stored. You'll see something like "Got it — I'll keep your answers concise and bullet-point from now on."

Verify it in a new thread

Open a new conversation and ask any question. Notice the response format matches your saved preference without you restating it. Memory persists across threads.

Update or clear a preference

If your needs change, just ask: "Forget the bullet-point preference — I'd like full paragraphs now." Or to remove all saved preferences: "Clear my memory." You can also layer in new preferences on top of old ones.

Memory works best with specific, actionable instructions. "Be concise" is good; "use at most 5 bullets per response and skip pleasantries" is better.
