Slash commands & the capability picker
Invoke any capability in seconds without scrolling menus.
Beginner · ~5 min · Prerequisites: None
What you'll do
Use the / slash menu and the Recommended for you capability grid to launch capabilities fast — without hunting through settings or remembering exact phrasing.
Steps
Start a fresh thread and explore the capability grid
Click Assistant in the sidebar to open a new thread. The Recommended for you grid shows capability cards tailored to your workspace. Click any card — for example Draft an email or Summarize my inbox — and its example prompt drops directly into the composer. Edit it if needed, then press Enter to send.
Open the slash menu in an existing thread
In any composer — new thread or existing — type / at the very start of a line. The capability picker opens immediately above the text box, showing your Recent capabilities first, followed by a grouped list of everything available.
Filter to find what you need
Keep typing after the / to filter the list. For example, /sched narrows to scheduling capabilities; /doc shows document-related ones. Use the ↑ and ↓ arrow keys to move through the results, then press Enter to select. The capability's starter prompt lands in the composer, ready for you to fill in the details.
Notice how recents reorder to the front
The next time you open the slash menu, capabilities you've used recently appear at the top. The picker learns your habits, so the tools you reach for most often are always one keystroke away.
Slash commands work in every composer in the assistant — including the in-document Ask assistant panel. Type / anywhere you can send a message.
